Commentary

Right then, that is it from the 2nd T20I where West Indies have sealed the series and will look for a whitewash now while South Africa will want to stop that. The focus now shifts to the third and final game which will start on 27th May, Monday at 12.30 am IST (7 pm GMT, Previous Day), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Brandon King, the victorious skipper of West Indies says that it is a great feeling to win the series at home. On being asked about Roston Chase's all-round performance, he says it's a luxury to have a player like him who can contribute with both bat and ball and that he took the responsibility and batted well staying unbeaten. Says they didn't have a good start in the Powerplay but after that, they hit the right areas with the ball. Adds that the bowlers bowled with clarity and appreciates Gudakesh Motie for the way he has bowled in this series. Tells that the side is in good momentum and they are aiming to carry forward this momentum in the T20 World Cup too.

Rassie van der Dussen, the captain of South Africa says that he is not happy with the bowling performance as they conceded 15-20 runs extra. Adds that their pacers did not have any answers but the spinners did very well. Praises debutant Nqabayomzi Peter for his effort and says it did not look like he was playing his first game, and Bjorn Fortuin was also excellent. Mentions that it is disappointing to lose the series but they still have one more game and will look to bounce back in the next one.

Roston Chase is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his unbeaten 67 with the bat in the first innings. He says he was ready for this opportunity and conditioned his mind to play any role. Adds that the plan was to take it to the deep and also says that the wicket was better than the first T20I. On being asked about his bowling performances, he says that you have to be always ready to bowl the tough overs. Ends up by saying he is quite happy with the performance.

Presentation Time...

Earlier in the game, West Indies posted a big total on the board courtesy of a fine half-century from Roston Chase along with good cameos from Brandon King, Andre Fletcher, and Romario Shepherd. The debutant, Nqabayomzi Peter was the pick of the bowlers with a couple of wickets. Lungi Ngidi and Andile Phehlukwayo also picked up two wickets each but were expensive while Bjorn Fortuin got one but was very economical. While chasing, South Africa came out all guns blazing and it was looking like they would get over the line, but after the openers departed, they could not really take the pressure and had to face another defeat.

West Indies, on the other hand, were taken apart by the Proteas openers in the Powerplay but they did make a small comeback with Akeal Hosein and Roston Chase getting rid of both in consecutive overs. The spinners were good in the middle overs as well and managed to check the runs. That put a lot of pressure on the South African middle order and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals which meant they were always behind the game. Romario Shepherd was excellent as well bowling in the death overs and giving nothing away. Gudakesh Motie once again was the key bowler for them with three crucial wickets while the other spinners also contributed well and Shephard closing things off nicely.

South Africa got off to an absolute flier with Quinton de Kock being his old self again and smashing it all around the park while Reeza Hendricks also continued his good touch. The duo maximized the use of the Powerplay and added 81 runs together before perishing in quick succession and not being able to convert their starts. They had to rebuild again and it was Matthew Breetzke and Ryan Rickelton who took things forward nicely but once again they lost them both one after the other just as when they were looking in control. However, their middle order couldn't make much impact except for skipper Rassie van der Dussen who looked good and played a  few lusty blows before getting dismissed on a full toss which probably was the turning point of this game. Bjorn Fortuin and Nqabayomzi Peter tried their best but that was never going to be enough as they fell short by 16 runs in the end.

WEST INDIES SEAL THE SERIES! They have done that with another clinical performance and with one game to spare as well. The Windies were under a bit of pressure but they fought back excellently and took the victory. South Africa will be a bit disappointed as they got off to a great start in this chase but their middle order failed them once again in this series.

Commentary

We are back for South Africa's reply! The West Indies players are seen in the last-minute huddle near the ropes with Brandon King offering some words of wisdom to his boys, before spreading out to the field. Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks are the two openers for South Africa. Kyle Mayers will start the proceedings with the new ball for West Indies. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, 208 it is to chase for South Africa to equalize the series, and they do possess the requisite firepower that can send shivers down the spine of any bowling attack. But for this, the middle order will have to step up to the occasion and contribute as well. West Indies would be aiming to stem the run flow from the get-go and also strike early breakthroughs to cement their position in the game and the series. An all-exciting run chase is up next shortly.

Nqabayomzi Peter is up for a flash interview for his exceptional debut bowling performance. He says that he is happy with his performance but there are still a few things to be worked on. Adds that the wicket is a better one than the last game and he believes they have the batting arsenal to chase this down. Mentions that the first wicket is always a special one and it was good to be contributing for the team. Ends by saying that he being on this stage says a lot to the youths and tells that you have to keep working hard and the time will come.

South Africa did a good job of containing the West Indies' batters in the start, keeping the scoring rate in check. The pitch offered noticeable help for the spinners, so the South African captain decided to bring Bjorn Fortuin into the attack in the second over. Fortuin bowled tightly and got his reward in his second over. Nqabayomzi Peter, the debutant who has experienced a tremendous ascend in his career, made an immediate impact by taking a prized maiden wicket in his very first over. Andile Phehlukwayo's next over was a bit expensive, going for 19 runs, but Peter came back strong with another important wicket, dismissing Mayers and putting the Proteas back in control. Even though Phehlukwayo leaked runs, he did manage to break a crucial partnership with a wicket of his own. But in the slog overs, the Proteas bowlers took the beating and leaked runs to an extent. Andile Phehlukwayo, the hero of the last game was taken to the cleaners, and barring Lungi Ngidi's last over runs kept flowing easily. And as a result, South Africa conceded 68 runs in the last five overs.

13 fours and 14 sixes from West Indies in the first innings and surely, the strong finish in the slog overs has put the hosts in the driving seat as they breach the 200-run mark on a pitch that was slightly on the slower side. The West Indies began their innings with a cautious approach on a sluggish pitch. Johnson Charles had a hard time connecting his shots and eventually got out for yet another single-digit score. However, their skipper, Brandon King, who has been in great form, took charge. He punished loose deliveries with big hits and played some elegant drives, contributing a useful knock of 36 before getting out right after the first Powerplay. Kyle Mayers then, with an aim to shift the momentum and keep the scoreboard ticking, struck a couple of big shots out of the park, demonstrating his intent to ease off the pressure. But just when he had settled at the crease with a healthy strike rate, he fell victim to the spin and was dismissed for a quickfire 32. Roston Chase and Andre Fletcher attempted to steady the ship notching a 56-run resilient stand. The latter scored a a good rate as well but again, just when he settled his eyes, Fletcher departed too. But Roston Chase continued to attack from the other end adding pivotal runs to the total and also notched up his maiden T20I half-century. Chase's resilient half-century proved to be a game-changer for the hosts, coupled with a superb clutch cameo from Romario Shepherd propelled West Indies to go past 200.

OUT! TAKEN! Lungi Ngidi sends Fabian Allen back for a golden duck! West Indies loses the sixth wicket now!

19.12

Drinks! At halfway mark, South Africa must be thinking that they have controlled the game to an extent by sniping out the two dangerous blokes of West Indies. Brandon King and Kyle Mayers both looked solid from the get-go but perished in their 30s right after getting settled and couldn't convert their starts into big scores. Nqabayomzi Peter, the debutant couldn't have asked for a better start as he was the man who removed the set batters of the hosts. We are all set to start! The South African players are already in their respective field positions. Brandon King and Johnson Charles are the two openers for West Indies. Lungi Ngidi has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

PITCH REPORT - Mike Haysman is at the pitchside. Starts informing about the dimensions and says, it is 65 and 64 meters on either square. Says that with the wind building up a bit later, the ball will carry well in the air. Adds that the spinners got a good purchase off the track in the first game. Says it is very dry and has got quite a few cracks around. Reckons that it will play better than the first game and also thinks that the spinners will play a crucial role once again. Ends up by saying that it will a challenging surface to score runs.

Rassie van der Dussen, the captain of South Africa says that they would have batted first as well. Adds that it's a great opportunity to rectify their errors in the first game. Tells that they took a bit longer to get into the game and they had some traveling to do but don't want to use that as an excuse. Informs Anrich Nortje comes in for Gerald Coetzee and Nqabayomzi Peter makes his debut in place of Ottniel Baartman.

Brandon King, the skipper of West Indies calls it right and elects to bat first. He starts and says this is the kind of pitch where chasing is a bit tricky. Adds they did a few things better in the first game and certainly there are areas to improve especially in the batting. Further tells that they just need to improve on the one-percenters. Informs Romario Shepherd comes in the XI in place of Matthew Forde.

South Africa (Playing XI) - Quinton de Kock (WK), Reeza Hendricks, Ryan Rickelton, Matthew Breetzke, Rassie van der Dussen (C), Wiaan Mulder, Andile Phehlukwayo, Bjorn Fortuin, Nqabayomzi Peter (In place of Ottniel Baartman and On Debut), Anrich Nortje (In place of Gerald Coetzee), Lungi Ngidi.

West Indies (Playing XI) - Brandon King (C), Johnson Charles, Kyle Mayers, Roston Chase, Andre Fletcher (WK), Fabian Allen, Romario Shepherd (In place of Matthew Forde), Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Joseph, Obed McCoy.

TOSS - West Indies have won the toss and elected to BAT first.

South Africa finds itself desperate to snatch a win and level the series. Their defeat in the opener, failing to chase a modest 176, left them reeling at a meager 147 all out. Quinton de Kock, in particular, is under pressure to find his form, but it's not just him, the entire middle order crumbled, leaving Reeza Hendricks to battle it out almost single-handedly with his courageous 87. The Proteas are in dire need of a batting overhaul, pinning hopes on players like Ryan Rickelton, Matthew Breetzke, and skipper Rassie van der Dussen to step up and deliver match-winning performances. On the bowling front, they've traditionally been strong, and they'll be eager to maintain that dominance. South Africa is geared up for this encounter with a resolute determination to bounce back with an all-round improved performance. Will South Africa bounce back? We shall find out as the toss and team updates are up next in a few minutes.

In the series opener, West Indies made an impressive start, clinching a commanding 28-run win over the Proteas at the same venue. Displaying prowess with both bat and ball, the hosts are determined to reaffirm their status as serious contenders and rejuvenate their reputation in the shortest format. Led by Brandon King's standout performance with the bat, the top order of the West Indies looked formidable, with King and Kyle Mayers leading the charge, notably King's pivotal innings of 79 runs off just 45 deliveries. Although coming into this clash, the hosts would be urging its middle order players like Andre Fletcher, Fabian Allen, and Johnson Charles to light up the stage with their batting prowess and deliver those electrifying finishes. Their bowling unit appeared to be dominating as Matthew Forde, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, and Obed McCoy all picked up crucial wickets. Their bowlers would aim to keep the fire burning and continue their rampage.

Hello and a very warm welcome to our coverage of the 2nd T20I between West Indies and South Africa in this 3-match T20I series. South Africa's aiming to find an equalizer after falling behind 1-0, seeking redemption against the hosts who dominated in the series opener. The Sabina Park at Kingston, Jamaica is all in readiness to once again host this high-octane clash as this series holds utmost importance for both teams to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean itself.

... MATCH DAY ...

We are down to the 2nd T20I of the three-match series between the West Indies and South Africa at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. South Africa face a quick turnaround to bounce back from a tough defeat in the series opener, while the West Indies aim to seal the series with a game to spare. After being put in to bat, Brandon King led from the front, powering the hosts to 175 with a strong performance. The bowling unit then delivered a collective effort to back it up. For South Africa, Reeza Hendricks fought a lone battle, but apart from his effort, there was little to commend in their batting performance. As the visitors strive to keep the series alive, much will depend on the experienced duo of Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen. With the ball, Ottniel Baartman and Andile Phehlukwayo shone brightly, each picking up three wickets. With the series on the line, the Proteas think tank might consider bringing in experience with Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi. Gerald Coetzee and Lungi Ngidi must elevate their performance and contribute effectively. As for the West Indies, Brandon King has started his World Cup preparations in the best possible manner. Johnson Charles and Roston Chase, also aiming for the World Cup, will look to follow suit and score runs before the event. Having missed the series opener, Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd might get some much-needed game time in the next couple of matches, with the World Cup in mind. While Matthew Forde stood out in the pace department, Gudakesh Motie excelled in spin. However, with South Africa expected to bounce back strongly, Akeal Hosein, Obed McCoy and Shamar Joseph will need to step up and contribute as well. Will Brandon King and Co. put in yet another spirited effort and seal the series? Or will South Africa hit back and force a series decider? We shall find out.
