Right then, the two semifinalists from Group 2 are confirmed as South Africa and England make it through to the final four. There are still a couple of semifinal spots left in Group 1 and next up is probably the most anticipated clash of the tournament so far. It will be Australia taking on India at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia which will also be the penultimate match of the Super Eight stage. That game will be played on Monday, 24 June at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT) but as usual, you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up. Till then, take care and goodbye!

The victorious skipper of South Africa, Aiden Markram is up for a quick chat. He says that such has been the course of the tournament for them where they have to dig deep to extract a victory and they are happy to have won those close games throughout. He says he is feeling relieved to get through to the semis but they wouldn't get relaxed just by this as they are aiming much higher. Adds that they bowled well to start with and assessed the condition well and restricted the Windies to a below-par total. Mentions that they will take the learnings from this game and do well in the coming games. Also says that they identified that the spin would be a trouble for them and they stuck to it and the surface helped them too. Says Kagiso Rabada bowling just two overs speaks volumes on how the surface was acting and they feel happy to have executed their plans to perfection. Closes by saying that they were looking to take the game on and act smartly looking at the conditions that were in front of them and they managed to do it successfully.

Rovman Powell, the captain of West Indies says that the credit must be given to the boys who fought till the end and it was with the bat that they lost the game. adds that the wicket wasn't easy to bat on and they just lost wickets in clusters in the middle phase which was decisive. Mentions that they wanted to give their all in the field and he is proud of the boys. Adds that looking on the outside, they aren't in the semis but they have gone from number 9 in the world to number 3 in the last year or so and it is now important to continue the good work and make their people proud. Ends by saying that the crowd and the support have been fantastic wherever they have played and it is good to see that the cricketing spirit hasn't died down in the Caribbean.

Tabraiz Shamsi is the Player of the Match for his stellar showing with the ball early on. He says that he was sweating at the end but it's been the theme of the tournament for them and they have been finding a way to win as a team no matter what the situation is. Adds that they had confidence in Marco and he delivered. Mentions that the fans like bigger wins but such victories of close margins are what gets a team going even more. Also says that the last time he played on this ground he went for a few but he had a good chat with the coaching staff and they helped him. Credits the other bowlers and says they set the tone up front and together as a unit they performed to their best level. Closes by saying it is always a one-sided love affair between rain, South Africa and chasing but luckily it did not hinder their progress today.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Aiden Markram won the toss and put West Indies into bat first on a track that looked to be offering something for everyone. Markram picked up something early on from the pitch and was very smart to use a lot of spin in the first 10 overs. Markram even bowled a four-over spell himself upfront and they managed to pick up early wickets as well. Then came the 81-run stand between Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase that got the hosts into a position of promise but with overs running out and the run rate not quite where they would have wanted it to be, the batters had to push. South Africa took advantage of this and kept pressing as the wickets started to tumble and restricted them to just 135 runs with Chase being the star with a well-compiled half-century. In reply, it was a stop-start chase with rain impeding play but South Africa managed to hit enough boundaries in the middle phase than allowed them to get over the line when things got tight.

Utter heartbreak for West Indies who have played some scintillating cricket throughout this tournament but have been undone tonight in a must-win game by an unbeaten Proteas side that was riding high on confidence. They needed wickets upfront and Andre Russell delivered in the second over of the chase, sending back both openers. They needed to find the same momentum after the rain break and Alzarri Joseph bowled an aggressive spell that brought wickets for the hosts. However, a couple of expensive overs from the spinner, especially that 20-run over from Gudakesh Motie completely shifted the momentum into the opposition's favor. They did rally back as Roston Chase bowled a lovely spell during a difficult phase and took them to the brink but it just wasn't enough.

Originally needing 135 runs for the win, South Africa started poorly as Reeza Hendricks got strangled down the leg side for a golden duck. In the next over, Quinton de Kock was caught out in the deep and then came the rain which halted play for a long while. The target was revised to 123 in 17 overs and the Proteas came out with positive intent. Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs started to find the fence but Markram was the aggressor and soon fell. Heinrich Klaasen then came in and added 35 quickfire runs along with Stubbs which seemed to have got them in a comfortable position but Klaasen too fell. David Miller looked patchy and was undone by Roston Chase and even Stubbs fell when the finishing line was in sight. However, Jansen and Rabada remained cool and finished off the game in style.

SOUTH AFRICA HAVE DONE IT! Marco Jansen, you beauty! And would you believe it? The two men who collided in the first innings at the boundary have now hit a couple of telling blows each to take South Africa into the semifinals of the T20 World Cup after a decade. The Proteas not only top Group 2 but remain unbeaten and have now picked up 7 wins on the trot. Massive heartbreak though for the home side West Indies who really pulled things back and gave themselves some hop but thee target was always a couple of big shots away and they simply didn't have enough runs on the board.

SIX! South Africa are through to the semis. Pitched up around off, Marco Jansen clears the front leg leans back a bit and slogs this over the fence straight down the ground towards long on region for a maximum to wrap this game. South Africa wins this by 3 wickets and they have knocked out the hosts of the T20 World Cup.

Who will bowl the final over? Andre Russell and Alzarri Joseph are both bowled out. It has to be Obed McCoy, right? Yes, it is McCoy! Can he defend 4 runs and become the hero for his team? Let's find out.

The bat tilts in his hands at the time of connection with the ball and the ball is lofted toward Alzarri Joseph at long off who doesn't make a mistake and pouches it safely.

Commentary

We are back with the chase. The umpires are out in the middle followed by the players of West Indies who take their respective field positions. Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks walk out as the openers for South Africa. Spin straightaway as Akeal Hosein will open the attack for West Indies.

... The Run Chase ...

The spinner from South Africa, Tabraiz Shamsi is up for a quick chat and says that it was nice to play against the home team in front of a packed crowd and he was happy to contribute today. Adds that there are no set patterns in their bowling attack and they take it as it goes. Mentions that the surface is decent and there is a bit of turn but the ball seems to be coming onto the bat nicely and hopefully, there is a bit of dew as well in the next half. Adds that he isn't sure about whether Marco Jansen is completely fine or not and hopes that they don't require him with the bat.

The bowling from South Africa was lethal. The bowlers were well-disciplined and kept on delivering on those nagging lines and lengths that troubled the batters throughout their innings. The spinners inflicted the most damage as the trio of Aiden Markram, Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj took 5 wickets for 79 in their 12 overs. Kagiso Rabada was introduced in the 18th over yet he managed to pick up a wicket as well. Marco Jansen took one too. The target isn't that big but it is a tricky one and with the assistance on offer for the spinners we can expect a close contest. We will be back with the chase in a while.

After being asked to bat first, the batters of West Indies struggled to score freely and were pinned back to the wall with early blows. The side lost Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran early on in the Powerplay. Roston Chase along with Kyle Mayers knitted a solid partnership of 81 runs for the third wicket and laid a perfect platform for the batters down the the order. The side though lost its way post-drinks as they lost 8 wickets and added just 66 runs in the last 10 overs. Andre Russell looked in the mood to go big in the last few overs but a rash decision to take on the arm of Anrich Nortje cut short his innings on 15. Roston Chase was the top scorer for the hosts as he scored 52 while Kyle Mayers also played a handy knock of 35. Alzarri Joseph added a crucial 11 runs as well.

South Africa have restricted the hard-hitting West Indies side to 135 in a game with a spot in the semis is at stake. The hosts looked good till the drinks break but they failed to shift gears in the middle phase.

Just a single to end but a decent final over for West Indies as 11 runs come off it. Back of a length and a bit slower too around off stump. Alzarri Joseph looks to stay back and hammer it away but miscues it down through mid off for a single. West Indies finish with a meager 135/8 on the board!

19.52

Excellent running! Short of a length and at the pads, Alzarri Joseph forces it away on the leg side and into the gap in front of square leg before racing back for the second run.

19.41b

Attempted run out at both ends but the batters manage to scrape through for the bye. Banged in short and over the stumps, Gudakesh Motie swings and misses and Alzarri Joseph is already halfway down the track. Quinton de Kock misses the shy at the batter's end and then KG picks up the ball and fails to hit the stumps at the bowler's end as well.

19.31

A bit more gas on that delivery, bowled back of a length and around off, Alzarri Joseph hits it away on the off side for a single.

19.26

SIX! Top shot from Alzarri Joseph and the home crowd has something to cheer about. Short of a length, banged in over the stumps and angling in. Alzarri Joseph hangs back, makes room and clobbers it over deep square leg for a six.

19.10

Swing and a miss! Good change-up from Kagiso Rabada, taking pace off and bowling it full around off stump. The ball moves away as it was the leg cutter and Alzarri Joseph was way early in his swing.

OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Casually done by Kagiso Rabada and he is enjoying a fine first over here. Takes pace off, bowling it at 123 clicks and on a fullish length around off stump. Akeal Hosein sets up for the cover drive but the ball sticks in the pitch and Hosein ends up just toe-ending the ball to the right of the bowler. KG sticks out both hands on the follow-through and grabs it with ease.

17.40

No run there! Just back of a length and around off, Akeal Hosein looks to drop and run on the off side but is sent back promptly by his partner.

17.30

Beaten! Pitches this one up in the channel around off and angling away quickly, Akeal Hosein looks to drive without much footwork and is beaten on the outside edge.

17.21

A bit on the fuller side and around off stump, Alzarri Joseph plays it on the up and wide of mid off for a single.

Alzarri Joseph walks out next.

17.1W

OUT! RUN OUT! What a moment this could be in the context of the game and Andre Russell cannot believe it. Kagiso Rabada comes in and starts with a good-length delivery around the top of off and angling away, Akeal Hosein hops back and nudges it down with soft hands towards short third and the batters set off for the single right away. Anrich Nortje over there picks up the ball and scores a direct hit at the batter's end. The replays show that Russell is just short of his crease and the home crowd is silenced.

IS THAT OUT? This is a massive moment in this game. A brilliant effort from Anrich Nortje supported by a rash decision by Andre Russell combines to add misery to the Windies camp as Andre Russell is run out just when he was looking to explode. The third umpire is called in and short of his crease. OUT!

Kagiso Rabada comes into the attack for the first time in this game.

We are finally back for the restart! The umpires are back out in the middle and so are the players of West Indies. The revised Powerplay will be of 5 overs and two bowlers can bowl a maximum of 4 overs. Aiden Markram is back out to resume his stay and will have Tristan Stubbs for company. Akeal Hosein will start a new over. Let's play...

UPDATE - 8.58 am IST (3.28 am GMT) - Right then, we have official news on the restart. The match will restart at 9.15 am IST (3.45 am GMT) but it will be a 17-over chase for South Africa. The target will be 123 according to DLS and this could really turn out to be a humdinger of a game. Grab a cup of coffee and join us soon for all the action.

UPDATE - 8.51 am IST (3.21 am GMT) - The rain stopped a while back but there is no word yet on the restart and that is due to a puddle that formed inside the 30-yard circle. Also, we should be starting to lose overs now as well which is never a good sign. Let's hope that we do get a start time soon, stay tuned.

UPDATE - 8.29 am IST (2.59 am GMT) - There is some good news from the ground as the rain has stopped and the covers are starting to come off. The ground staff will now get going and hopefully, the ground can get ready soon for a restart. The drainage is pretty good at this venue and the umpires can be seen chatting with the ground staff as well. Stay tuned as we should have official word regarding the restart soon. Also, the latest the play can start to constitute a five-overs game is 10.08 am IST (4.38 am GMT) which is still more than an hour and a half away.

UPDATE - 8.18 am IST (2.48 am GMT) - It is still pouring down in Antigua and the pitch and the squares are all firmly under covers. However, the outfield will take a lot of water given the rain but hopefully, it subsides and we can get the ground ready for play again. There is a buffer of about 90 minutes before we start losing overs, so, the question of the game getting washed out is still a fair bit away. Stick around as we might get some news from the ground soon.

UPDATE - 8.01 am IST (2.31 am GMT) - Uh, oh! Just as Tristan Stubbs was walking out to bat, a sudden rain shower has arrived along with a sturdy breeze. The rain has gotten heavier and we might be in for a bit of a delay. It wouldn't be a do-or-die game for South Africa in a World Cup clash without some rain, would it? Stay tuned as we bring you the latest updates.

A brilliant effort from Anrich Nortje supported by a rash decision by Andre Russell combines to add misery to the Windies camp as Andre Russell is run out just when he was looking to explode. The third umpire is called in and short of his crease. OUT!

OUT! EXCELLENT TAKE BY Aiden Markram REMOVES Sherfane Rutherford! Fuller just outside off, Sherfane Rutherford looks to lean on and push it away but the ball keeps turning away from him. The ball takes the outside edge dropping on Aiden Markram at first slip but he crouches low and takes a stunning low catch to remove Sherfane Rutherford from the middle. The umpires take it upstairs to see if the catch was cleanly taken and the replay suggests the fingers were underneath the ball and the catch is cleanly taken.

Is that a fair catch? It seems to be a sharp low catch at first slip and Sherfane Rutherford has started walking but the umpires just want to be sure. Aiden Markram is the man who took the catch and the third umpire is having a look at it by zooming in. Fingers clearly under the ball and OUT comes up on the screen.

OUCH! That must've hurt. A collision between Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada as they both go for the same catch towards the boundary down the ground. We aren't that far away from the start of this virtual quarterfinal but first, the great man himself, Sir Vivian Richards walks out with the coveted trophy and places it on the podium. Next, the officials make their way out to the middle followed by the two sets of players who will lineup for their respective national anthems. It will be the national anthem of South Africa first followed by that of West Indies.

PITCH REPORT - Shaun Pollock is pitchside. Adds that the breeze will be a factor and it is a 74-meter downtown boundary. Mentions that on one side there is a small boundary but the batter will have to hit against the wind which will make it interesting. Samuel Badree joins him and says that of all the venues, this has produced the most bounce and reckons that bashing it into the surface will be something that the pacers will look to exploit but there will be runs on offer.

The skipper of West Indies, Rovman Powell says they were looking to bowl as well but this allows the batters to bat well and post a good total on board. Adds that he is backing his side to adapt to the conditions here and perform well today Informs that they have one change as Kyle Mayers replaces Johnson Charles.

The skipper of South Africa, Aiden Markram says that they will bowl first and hopes that the wicket will get better later on and want to make use of the early conditions. Adds that they have been playing decent cricket and hope to play enough good cricket to get through tonight. Mentions that there is a strong breeze but it is generally a good batting wicket and informs that Tabraiz Shamsi is back in for Ottneil Baartman.

South Africa (Playing XI) - Quinton de Kock (WK), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram (C), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi (replaces Ottneil Baartman).

West Indies (Playing XI) - Kyle Mayers (replaces Johnson Charles), Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Roston Chase, Rovman Powell (C), Sherfane Rutherford, Andre Russell, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Obed McCoy.

TOSS - The coin lands in favor of South Africa and Aiden Markram. He informs that they are going to BOWL first.

South Africa on the other hand is one of the two sides yet to be beaten in this tournament. Despite having won all the games so far they are just one defeat away from elimination from the T20 World Cup. The narrow victories left them with an inferior NRR to the West Indies and England. The side currently sits second but a defeat today would drag them down to third despite having the same points as their opponents for the day. The side did brilliantly to win their last game against England from a situation where they were down and out. The bowlers have been superb for them with Kagiso Rabada leading the pack. Anrich Nortje has done well too. The batting has revolved around an in-form Quinton de Kock but the rest of the batters have to take responsibility and turn up good on the big occasion before it gets too late for them. Both sides have quality players and serial match-winners from top to bottom but which side continues to challenge for the silverware and whose tournament will come to a close today? We shall find out soon. Stay tuned for toss and team updates.

The hosts, West Indies, have had a tremendous tournament so far. They were undefeated in the initial group stage but were handed a defeat at the hands of England in their first game of the Super 8s but they are walking into this game with a win under their belt as they crushed USA in their previous game. The side has some sensational power-hitters along with an abundance of match-winners at their disposal. Kyle Mayers has replaced Brandon King in the squad. Brandon King suffered a side strain while batting against England. The Windies had a commanding victory over USA in their last game. Shai Hope was simply sensational with the bat while it was the bowlers that did the job for them. Windies have a side capable of bulldozing any side on their day and they have played some good cricket in this campaign and would be hoping to come up good against the Proteas and advance to the semis.

Hello and welcome to all our esteemed viewers. With qualification to the semi-finals at stake, the host nation West Indies takes on one of the undefeated sides of the tournament so far in South Africa. Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua will host this this high-octane contest.

... MATCHDAY ...

A huge match beckons in the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024 as co-hosts West Indies take on South Africa in Match 10 of this stage of the competition at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. With qualification for the semifinals on the line, hosts West Indies will be itching to get a win in the final match in Group 2 and round off a sensational comeback. The Windies started the Super Eight phase with quite a demoralizing loss against England. However, they bounced back in fine style against co-hosts USA and bolstered their net run rate with a humongous win. On the other hand, South Africa have not just been spotless in the Super Eight phase but also in the whole tournament and yet, a loss here might see them dumped out of the competition if England get a big win against USA as well. The Proteas won a crucial game against England last time around but could have done with a more clinical showing against USA that would have seen them well ahead on the net run rate part as well. But they do have only wins against their name so far and will be highly confident to silence the home crowd and send West Indies out of the competition. Talking about West Indies a a bit more, they faltered with the bat in the second half of their innings against England and were then put to the sword by the opposition batters in the field as well but this wasn't the case against USA in their previous game. After bundling out USA for 128 runs thanks to some sensational bowling from the likes of Andre Russell and Roston Chase who picked up three wickets each, the batters went into overdrive from the word go and chased down the target in just 11 overs and Shai Hope made an unreal 82 not out off just 39 balls. That win certainly boosted their net run rate a lot and a win against the Proteas even by the barest of margins will be enough for them to make it through to the last four. They have the team and on their day, they can out-hit any opposition in the world but consistency is the name of the game at the moment. South Africa came into the Super Eight phase on the back of four wins out of four but three of those wins were quite close encounters and then in their first game against USA, they almost ended up letting it slip. However, they won the game and against England as well, they were able to turn the tide in the final couple of overs after having let it slip with the ball once again. Generally, the Proteas get a few easy wins against most sides but when it matters most, they get into their shell but this time, it seems that they are able to play the big occasions much better and that might be a big factor heading into this game. Can South Africa keep churning out those gritty wins and move into the semifinals with an unblemished record? Or will West Indies undo all their hard work and dump them out of the competition? Only time will tell.
