OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! A break in play and there you go, a wicket for the West Indies! Russell steams in from over the wicket and digs it in short, over middle, Moeen Ali swivels in the crease to take the short ball on. The ball comes onto him quicker than he anticipated and gets big on him as well. It goes only as far as deep mid-wicket where Johnson Charles settles under it and takes it well inside the fence. Another arm ball but this is much fuller, on middle, Jos Buttler presses half-forward and nudges it through mid-wicket for a couple of runs to open his account.

There's that arm ball from Akeal Hosein, that tails back in, on a nagging length, on middle, Jos Buttler gets his bat out in front of the pads and pushes it with a straight bat to the left of the bowler.

Confusion all around! Jofra Archer digs it in short and it skids through, over middle, Romario Shepherd makes room as he goes for the pull but the ball zips through. Shepherd gets called through for a bye and Sherfane Rutherford makes it to the batting end. Shepherd is struggling to make it to the bowling end but Jofra Archer misses his underarm throw and the batters collect one more.

Brandon King had an unfortunate injury and got retired hurt on 23 but Nicholas Pooran picked it up from where he left off and is into his 20s stitching a good partnership with Johnson Charles. England bowled decently but they haven't been able to get a breakthrough yet. However, the boundaries have dried up since the last couple of overs and England would want to capitalize on this by taking a couple of wickets, as they desperately need it. Let's see how the next half pans out for both sides.

SIX! Oh, goodness gracious! That is massive and has gone miles! Before we get going in this heavyweight bout, the players, along with the mascots, will lineup for their respective national anthems. It will be England's national anthem first followed by that of the West Indies.

Phil Salt is in for a chat. He says that they are scheduled to play two games here and it will be about assessing the conditions as quickly as they could. Feels that the side that does that well will give themselves the best chance. Reckons that it is about playing their best of game of cricket and thinking what does the team need from them. On their top four batters all being right-handed, he feels that right-hand left-hand combination does not matter much and if you are there, you are the man to get the job done.

PITCH REPORT - Natalie Germanos is pitchside. She informs that pitch number 2 will be used for this game and this is the second time this surface is being used. Informs that 63 metres and 72 metres are the dimensions of the square boundaries with a 77-metre hit down the ground. Adds that an 18 kph breeze is blowing across and the two teams will have to consider it. Ian Bishop joins her and says that despite there being a few scratch marks around the good length, this is a good surface. Shares that the pitch has been rolled in and watered nicely. Adds that the surface is very hard with very little live grass. Tells that this surface has seen a bit of extra bounce but the pitch has played true and batters can trust the bounce.

Rovman Powell, the skipper of West Indies, says they would have bowled first as well but says it is a good wicket and is hopeful that the batters will step up and score big. Adds they have rolled the surface well and says it is generally a good wicket to bat on. Tells that they have been playing good cricket overall and says they will naturally get good support. Informs two changes, Roston Chase comes in for Shai Hope, and Romario Shepherd replaces Obed McCoy.

The captain of England, Jos Buttler says that they will bowl first. Adds that they watched the last game here and the wicket looked good. States that with the strong breeze, they fancy their chances of chasing. Informs that Mark Wood comes in for Chris Jordan and that Liam Livingstone is fit to take a full part in this game. Shares that this is that part of the tournament where you want to be as you get to play top teams. Ends by saying that he is looking forward to playing in what will be a good atmosphere.

TOSS UPDATE - The coin flip lands in the favor of England, and Jos Buttler elects to BOWL first.

England were the second team in their group to qualify after Australia and had their game against Scotland rained off. They literally had to rely on the Aussies beating Scotland to squeeze into the Super 8s. England hasn't really been at their best since last year's ODI World Cup. But finally making it to the next round should give them a much-needed confidence boost. Jos Buttler and Co. are aiming to put up a strong all-round performance and to step it up as they enter the critical phase. Their last two wins though, the one against Oman where they decimated the opposition with the bat and ball, and then beating Namibia convincingly, displayed that everyone stepped up, showing signs that they might be getting their groove back. And with Jofra Archer back in the mix, their bowling attack just got a whole lot spicier. It's a massive clash between two heavyweight teams, and it's gonna be an absolute nail-biter for sure. Can the West Indies keep their unbeaten streak going, or will England finally get one over their Caribbean rivals? The toss and teams are just around the corner. Stick around.

The Men in Maroon, West Indies, are firing on all cylinders right now, looking straight-up unbeatable. They're rolling into this match on an eight-game winning streak. Sure, their couple of wins in this World Cup over PNG and New Zealand were nail-biters and had a few anxious moments, but them decimating Uganda and the highly-rated Afghanistan proved they've really hit their stride. The two-time champs are peaking at the right time. Nicholas Pooran has been having a dream run for a year and a half or so and has led the batting unit with sheer consistency backed by ruthless power-hitting at will. His 98 in the previous game just proved his flawlessness with the bat. Seeing him, the other batters too have displayed form and with a perfect blend of brutal all-rounders, the West Indian batting line-up has no wrinkles as of now. The bowlers have done their part as well, with both seamers and spinners stepping up and contributing heavily. Now as their challenge further elevates as they face the defending champs, the Windies will be expected to put on a strong fight.

This clash features the co-hosts and the dangerous West Indies taking on the defending champions, England. The Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium at Gros Islet, St. Lucia will play the host to this marquee clash. Both these sides are competing for their third title respectively.

The 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup has now reached its second stage which is the Super Eight stage and 8 teams have been divided into two groups of four with two from each group advancing into the semifinals. In the second match of Group 2, hosts West Indies will take on England at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia. West Indies remained spotless in the initial group stage with four wins out of four but that final win against Afghanistan will give them a lot of confidence heading into the next stage of the competition. A couple of nervy performances against Papua New Guinea and New Zealand but in the last game, most of the batting line-up was on fire. Nicholas Pooran was the star of the show and he seems to have found a second wind in the last year or so after being dropped from captaincy and struck a sensational 98 to help his side post a total of well over 200 runs. The bowling line-up was also on song as they bundled out Afghanistan for just 114 runs inside 17 overs. West Indies did play against England earlier in the year where the scores were pretty high across the board and we saw some sensational batting. England though come into the Super Eights on the back of a nervy campaign. Their first game against Scotland was washed out and then they were well beaten by arch-rivals Australia in the next game. They did bounce back with a thumping win against Oman. In their final game against Namibia, rain yet again played a big part and almost threatened their exit but the match did get completed and England did manage to win well in the end to secure their spot in the Super Eights. A lot will depend on that deep batting line-up they have but they will be aware of the threat the opposition possesses, especially given that the Windies know the conditions pretty well. Jos Buttler will look to rally his troops as they look to shift gears quickly in a bid to defend their title. Can the hosts topple the champions and pick up a huge win? Or will England rise to the challenge and beat West Indies at their own game? Only time will tell.
